Salmon fisherman have seen a dramatic decline in king salmon in Western Alaska and blame by catch by Bering Sea Pollock companies. It is these companies that are funding a study to look into their decline. The study will be lead by the university of Alaska in Fairbanks over the next two years. It is funded with $435 000 and $180 000 from the Alaska Sustainable Salmon Fund. The study will be investigating salmons growth and also infections that affect them. By catch numbers are capped and regulated but this study will find out is stricter regulations are needed in future.
