A study presented at the American Association for Cancer Research Frontiers in Cancer Prevention conference has shown that there is an inverse association between Omega 3 fatty acids and colon cancer risk. In particular cancers of the distal bowel, Omega 3 fatty acids are abundant in salmon, tuna, trout, mackerel and sardines.
Subjects were recruited at random and their diets assessed over the last 12 months using a food frequency questionnaire, it was shown that people who ate more omega 3 fatty acids had a lower risk of colon cancer more so in white participants.
So yet another reason to enjoy fish.
