The Karluk river is to be closed for salmon fishing including commercial at the rivers mouth until July 16th. This follows a week of poor returns. The closure includes all fishing including catch and release. This is indeed sad but highlights Alaska’s ongoing commitment to sustainable fishing and protecting the precious salmon. Its is these measures that make Alaska the Gold Standard in sustainable fishing and allow numbers to pick back up again next year.
